This 3N-8463 roller bearing is designed for Cat parts applications, offering superior performance and reliability in demanding industrial environments.
Product Overview
Self-aligning roller bearings consist of an inner ring with two raceways inclined at an angle to the bearing axis, an outer ring with a common spherical raceway, spherical rollers, cages and, in certain designs, also internal guide rings or center rings. The bearings can also be sealed.
Most spherical roller bearings feature two rows of rollers, enabling them to handle very heavy radial loads and substantial axial loads. Single-row designs are also available for lower radial loads with minimal axial load requirements, commonly referred to as "barrel roller bearings" or "Tonnenlager" in the 202- and 203-series.
Design Features
The internal design of spherical roller bearings is not standardized by ISO, resulting in variations between manufacturers and series. Key features that may be included:

Materials and Construction
Self-aligning roller bearings are available in various designs and materials to suit different applications. Common materials include stainless steel, chrome steel, and ceramic (silicon nitride). Hybrid designs feature ceramic balls with metal races.
For standard self-aligning roller bearing 22205 CAW33C3, the primary material is GCr15 high carbon chrome bearing steel for inner rings, outer rings, and roller bodies. Alternative materials including carbon steel and stainless steel are available upon request.
Material selection depends primarily on manufacturing volume and method. For high-volume production, cages are typically stamped sheet-metal or injection-molded polyamide, while low-volume applications often use machined brass or steel cages. Special coatings may be applied for specific applications.

Cage Materials
Cages secure rollers within the bearing and may reduce the number of rollers depending on design, potentially affecting load capacity. Caged roller bearings were invented by John Harrison in the mid-18th century.
